Ronald Dale Lance, 67, of Springfield, died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2003 at his home with his wife and children by his side.
He was born September 4, 1935 in Cullman, Alabama, the son of James Oscar and Vondalee Herrin Lance. He married Joyce Ann Green on July 2, 1960 in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mr. Lance graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama and the University of Alabama, and served in the U.S Army. Mr. Lance has been a Springfield resident since 1964, where he established his career in manufacturing and sales. Mr. Lance owned Contractor Utility Sales Company in Springfield, and was a co-owner of several Comfort Suites hotels located throughout the Midwest. He also founded and owned Marathon Plastics, Inc. in Litchfield, IL. Mr. Lance had been a horse owner and was in the horse breeding business for many years. He was a dedicated outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing with his two sons and many friends. He also enjoyed traveling, and visited many parts of the world. He attended Lincoln Land Baptist Church.
Mr. Lance was preceded in death by his father, James Oscar Lance, and one sister, Charlotte Kizzire.
He is survived by his wife: Joyce, of Springfield; two sons: Michael Todd (wife, Lynne) and Timothy Dale (wife, Teresa), both of Springfield; one daughter: Traci Leigh (husband, James) Lumberg of Winnetka, IL; mother: Vondalee Lance, of Birmingham, AL; two sisters: Barbara Payne and Betty Fowler, both of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren: Hunter, Christopher, Jacob and Katie Lance, all of Springfield, and Hannah and Sarah Lumberg, of Winnetka.
Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003. Services are at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Rod Mattoon officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
